About Us

About the Leopards

A Queens public high school since 2003, built around college, careers and community.

Making a Difference

At HSLEAPS, students learn in a state-of-the-art facility. We work in collaboration with the New York City Police Department and the Police Athletic League to positively impact the community.

Our challenging academic program introduces careers in law, law enforcement and public safety. Those themes run through every subject, so students see how all areas of study connect and how their education supports the path they choose.

Founded in 2003 in Queens, our school reflects the diverse backgrounds and cultures of the area. We are extremely proud of our students and staff, who are always eager to learn, create and grow together.

  • Meet at the school, 116-25 Guy R. Brewer Boulevard, no later than 6:15 AM.
  • Missed the bus or not riding? Arrive at One Police Plaza by 8:00 AM.
  • Graduates arrange their own ride home after the ceremony.

Photo ID Required

Ticket holders and graduates must have a photo ID to enter One Police Plaza. This is a strict requirement. Guests may begin entering at 9:30 AM. Be prepared for scanning and metal detectors.

Who Gets Priority

Queens residents come first and make up 97% of offers. The remaining 3% go to students in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Do students get to meet law enforcement personnel?

Yes. Law enforcement personnel visit HSLEAPS regularly and meet with students in classrooms, in the auditorium and through the NYPD Explorers Program.

Is this a uniform school?

Yes. Our uniform is a navy blue or white polo shirt with the school logo and navy blue pants. All students follow the uniform policy. Read the Uniform Policy ↗

Can I visit the school?

Yes. We host open houses in the fall and spring. RSVP for an open house, or call (718) 977-4800 to set up a visit.

How do I apply?

Families apply through MySchools. HSLEAPS is a screened school, so applicants also interview and complete an on-demand writing task. See admissions details.

Can I earn college credits?

Yes. Students earn college credits through Monroe University (a 24-credit criminal justice track), Syracuse University (up to 7 credits), SUNY Farmingdale (up to 6) and St. John's University (up to 3). See courses.
